GiVe uS oUr cHeErFuL ZaC bAcK

ZaC has not been feeling well these 2 weeks. He had sore throat, followed by runny nose then cough. But they didn't bother ZaC very much and he was still as active as before. He had stopped all medication by last weekend. However on Monday, Mummy noticed ZaC's body was hot when she picked him up from school. That night, ZaC woke up at 3am and Mummy felt his forehead and body really hot. The 2 thermometers at home indicated 37.2-37.6 deg. Mummy was apprehensive to believe the readings and took ZaC to the doctor the next day. His temp was 38 deg. After 2 doses of panadol, ZaC's temp was back to normal and medication was stopped. But on Tue night, ZaC woke up at 1am crying loudly non-stop. Whatever he asked for, he was given but he rejected them. This went on for many rounds - ZaC would cry loudly and stopped occasionally before starting again. After much coaxing and walking ard the whole house to accommodate his demands, he was tired from all the crying and fell asleep.

On Wed night, he woke up crying ard 1am again. The cycle started once more. By this time, Daddy & Mummy were totally clueless and helpless with the situation. Nothing could appease ZaC. It went on & off until finally at 5am (close to daybreak), ZaC suddenly calmed down and wanted to watch Elmo DVD. Not long after, he fell asleep.

On Thurs night, the whole episode started again at 11plus and escalated at 12:30am. ZaC was crying really badly and it seemed like nothing could make him stop. Daddy & Mummy felt really helpless and desperate. Mummy recalled speaking with ZaC's teacher and one neighbour abt his crying earlier in the day. Both of them offered the same advice (shower ZaC with 7 pcs of red paper, 7 grains of rice and pomegranate leaves). Mummy got the red paper and went outside to get some pomegrenate leaves. Once Mummy stepped into the hse with the leaves, ZaC immediately stopped crying and calmed down. Not wanting to rush ZaC to shower, we strolled to the nearby temple (one of ZaC's fav places) at 1:15am to get an amulet. ZaC was happily chatting and playing all the way there and back (back to his usual self). He showered, drank milk and had a good night's rest by 2am.

Daddy & Mummy are not superstitious but ZaC has been 'sensitive' since young. If Daddy came back from funerals or brought cakes (one mth celebration) back home and forgot to wash his face with pomegranate leaves before entering the hse, ZaC will wake up crying in the middle of the night (but never as bad as this time). In order to have ZaC back to normal, everything is worth a try. He has been sleeping well since Thurs night (fingers crossed).
